And I just don't understand why we get so hung up about this - as far as I'm concerned the only people whose sex or gender or sexual orientation matters to me are the people I want to sleep with, and that's not a large number of people. No-one else's genital arrangements or cultural expressions of gender identity are really very important to me, with the caveat that it's important to me if injustice is involved as it clearly is.
But really, we could just stop asking these questions and deal with property issues as property issues and accept that adults should have the right to make decisions about what to do with their property and what to do with their bits and that these are not necessarily related.
I still like the Tassie law about registered relationships which actually recognises that there are important relationships which are not about sex. It's a pity that they had to muddy the waters with the same sex marriage issue - I still think that we could resolve these issues so much more easily if we just got rid of the privileges for straight marriage.
