A pox upon Murphy

I'm not best pleased right now. I had, overall a really nice Christmas. Mum and Mike were here as was the lovely montjoye and of course doushkasmum. A fine smattering of loot and conversation. Unfortunately, the cough that saw me cadge a lift home with sjkasabi last night has settled in my chest for the long haul and I have very reluctantly decided that hiking for 6 days from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair in this state would be a profoundly dumb thing. It's the sensible thing to do. I don't particularly want to be sensible, damn it. But I am. My plane ticket is cancelled, my bag shall remain unpacked and I shall sleep and drink water (and see the doctor tomorrow).

Bum.

Oh dear. I applaude your sense and lament the need. So what doushkasmum's plan? Has she found another walker?

Having walked the Overland Track whilst taking antibiotics for a major chest infection when I was young, stupid, and seriously in condition (bushwalking up mountains for at least one day and sometimes overnight, every second weekend or so, for the months before the Big Expedition), I applaud your sense, and also feel your pain. But seriously, I saw someone helicoptered out from hypothermia on that walk, and in retrospect it's amazing my infection didn't turn into pneumonia and lead to the same thing happening to me. I also had much less fun than I might have had otherwise. Both of us are much older and less fit than I was then (as well as the bushwalking practice I was doing a couple of aerobics sessions a week, riding my no-gear bike up the Park St hill to uni, and walking a lot, and the only bit of that I counted as formal exercise was the aerobics), and I fear the germs would get the better of us now.

Lots of sympathy, and we will bring chicken soup if doushkasmum goes without you.

A little improved, but not all better. Certainly not about to collapse in a pile though.
