Right. I have developed some bad habits lately, some worse than others so it's time to knock them on the head. I'm posting this so that there's some accountability and I can't just weasel out later with nobody the wiser.

Smoking: This is the worst. I took it up again at the start of last year when my world went kablooey. I cut myself some slack but since moving in with a smoker things have spiraled out of control. No more.

Alcohol: This is a sometimes treat, not every day. Three days per week alcohol free at *least* and drink as if I was driving when I do drink, even if I'm at home.

Trashy snacks: Confectionary, bready stuff, chips and cheeses. I need to back way off with these...there's a veritable smorgasbord of the stuff next to me at work and I have to make myself ignore it most days.

Exercise: This isn't bad but it's time to bump things up a little. Be more consistant and intense with cycle commuting and when I'm not derby training, do core strengthening exercises.

I can have the body I want if I work at it and I *know* I'll feel so much better on several levels if I do.

Hey, would you mind putting your weight control stuff behind a cut tag or filter please?

OK, I'm not prepared to disclose my entire mental health history to you on this. All I can say is that I have, in the past, found your discussion of weight loss to be upsetting, and I would rather not be upset by it any more. So if you're thinking of tagging something "weight loss" just stick it behind a tag, or if you're not willing to do that, then let me know and I'll unfollow.

Fair enough. I'm unsubscribing. I hope you keep this in mind next time someone is insensitive/thoughtless about gender stuff on their journal.

*takes note and encourages you*

I'm no expert, but stopping the smoking will help with the exercise as well, won't it? Make your lungs better able to cope with it etc. Double benefits there :)

Snacks though... they're hard to give up. Particularly if they're right next to you. Swap desks with someone?

Definitely better to address the habits you don't like now than leaving them for later. And cutting down on the yummy things means you'll appreciate them more when you allow yourself to indulge :)

Cutting the smoking will definitely help with the exercise. I've been doing it long enough and it has escalated enough now that I'm noticing its impact on my aerobic fitness. I'm going to want to pick up that aerobic fitness for derby so there's motivation there for me.

Snacks actually aren't so hard to give up. Chips and chocolate are fun but not delights of my life. Cheese is more difficult although I'm not going to cut that out of my life as it's my primary source of dairy. Alcohol will also be more difficult. I really like beer and wine, and not from a getting sloshed perspective. Forgoing the beer or glass of wine with dinner will be a bit difficult sometimes. MOAR TEA!

If you really get stuck with the smoking, I can point you towards the Hypno guy who stopped my smoking.

It's about $200 now (was cheaper when I did it) but that pays for itself within a few weeks of not buying smokes!

Always handy to have motivation; willpower is all well and good, but an actual benefit you can see and work towards is a nice extra push. And the derby is a fun thing (I assume) to act as motivation.

Moar tea indeed! Or hot chocolate, fruit juice, fizzy pop, sparkling water, flavoured water, warm milk... Why limit yourself to just one drink?! Mind you, the sugar in some of those wouldn't really be much better for you ;) Cheese should not be given up under any circumstances, it is a most yummy thing suitable for so many meals. Although I'm prepared to admit that it's probably possible to have too much of it.
